Blind Relief Center, New Delhi

MOC has undertaken several projects including providing dance lessons to children, some with special needs and staging their perform at public events. This year, MOC worked with the Blind Relief Center in New Delhi (India) and organized a music performance collaborated by students from that school and one student from Irvington High School, Fremont, California. The event was organized by the Blind Relief Center honoring Lewis Brail on his birthday celebration on Jan 4, 2008. While at the center, MOC initiated discussion on how best it could support the Relief center. MOC intends to follow up with the center to help build and expand its music department and perhaps in the future organize more opportunity for children to participate together in similar celebrations.

MOC goals

MOC Strives to achieve the following

• Every child is special & must be treated equal. Mainstreaming their educaiton must be a goal.
• Education system must be designed with “special needs” considerations right from the beginning.
• The education must be individualized for all children to maximize opportunity creation.
• Among other techniques, elements of Music, Arts, Theater and Sports (MATTERS) support these goals.

Involving NRI/PIO Youth

Conference organized by Government of India and may philinthropic organizations from across the world. in New Delhi to invite People of Indian Origin from all over the world to discuss among other topics, Mass Education In India. At this conference, Neal Bharadwaj, founder of MOC worked with another non-profit US organization called Global Organization of People of Indian Origin and made a presentation at the conference. It illustrated the need to provide unrestricted access to all opportunities with individualized delivery in order to ensure successful mainstreaming of special needs children. Stressing further that such children must be guaranteed equal rights in the Indian Education system by the constitution.

To illustrate its point, MOC shared its work with such children it has undertaken to mainstream special needs children through the elements of music, art, theater and sports. Among its many recommendation, the following was adopted by the forum:

* A focused discussion on special education in context of the education for masses of India would be useful.
* GOPIO-Youth could participate with philanthropic organizations like MOC to undertake more special education projects in India.
* GOPIO could help create resource pools, teacher training camps and volunteering and discussion opportunities among interested parties

NCLL Challenger League

MOC supports the Niles Canyon Challenger Little League (NCCLL) that organizes baseball for specal needs children belonging to the Fremont Unified School District. Here the founder of MOC personally volunteered as the bench coach and found that experience very rewarding. He also recruited other volunteers to help out with the game and also worked as a buddy for some of the children. MOC intends to continue support the NCCLL in its sports activity by helping recruit volunteers as well as provide possible baseball equipment for the use of the children.

Jeena

MOC supports the excellent work being done by Jeena, a nonprofit organization that works with disabled children and provides resources to their parents. It is here that the founder of MOC began working with disabled children as a volunteer and was awarded “volunteer of the year” for helping special needs children learn how to dance. He eventually was able to make a team of dancers that also included special needs kids and showcased their talents at several public events including Martin Luther King Celebration in East Palo Alto, District 7 Day Celebration in San Jose, and Festival of Light Celebration at Great America Park, Santa Clara.
